Turkish towels (or peshtemals) have been used for centuries in hammams, the traditional Turkish baths, where bathing is a slow, relaxing ritual rather than a quick, daily need. Derya Aguday and Fotis Merakos grew up surrounded by the traditional art of the Mediterranean, keeping warm under handwoven blankets, eating meals at handcrafted tables and with embroidered table linens made by their grandparents. With a deep appreciation for handmade traditions, they founded Anatoli after moving to Brooklyn, NY. Derya and Fotis spent months traveling around the villages and towns of Turkey to find the most authentic local artisan family producers with high-quality, eco-friendly and ethical production practices. Anatoli is proud to bring centuries-old authenticity from the hands of master craftspeople across Turkey to conscious consumers in the US and around the world.
