Doesn’t it just break your heart everytime you see those awful images of the sea overflowing with garbage? It looks hopeless and feels futile. But behind those piles of ocean garbage are loads of inspirational individuals and organizations finding creative and innovative ways to reverse the negative impact of ocean plastic. Here are just a few:
1. SPARK
Possibly the coolest idea I’ve seen yet, these genius folks have come up with a way to repurpose plastic ocean garbage into brightly colored, solar-powered beach huts. Not sure you can get more more eco-friendly and sustainable that that! Can’t wait to hear and see more about this as the word spreads.
2. Girlfriend Collective Leggings
My very favorite leggings! And not just because I get to brag that they are saving the planet AND cheaper than my gym buddies’ Lulus. They are actually made from recycled plastic water bottles, are are incredibly comfortable and durable… crazy right?!
3. RAW for the Oceans
As much of the fashion industry is focused on turning profits by minimizing costs to sustainably source and dispose of materials, it is refresh to learn about fashion businesses who are taking a different approach. RAW for the Oceans is actually taking ocean plastic and turning it into wearable fashion!
